Artemia is a primitive arthropod with a segmented body to which are attached broad leaf-like appendages named thoracopodes. Their length is ~ 8-10 mm for the adult male and ~ 10-12 mm for the female. To investigate Artemia population diversity in Urmia Lake, Artemia urmiana Günther 1890 cysts were collected from five sites in Lake Urmia, Iran. These sites in part represent areas with different physicochemical conditions. To detect possible differences between stations, discriminant analysis (DA) was performed on data of survival,. Artemia is 2.6 mg per dry gram of Artemia, and DHA content is very small. After enrichment of Artemia urmiana with Cod Liver Oil, EPA, DHA, and n-3 HUFA contents increased which were 8.5, 1.4 and 9.9 mg respectively per 1 dry gram of Artemia. The content of n-3 HUFA was decreased after preservation of enriched Artemia in the fridge for 6 hours. Artemia urmiana in laboratory conditions. Artemia cysts were harvested from Urmia Lake and hatched according to standard methods. Live microalgae were cultured using the f/2 culture medium. Artemia survival was determined in treatments on days 8, 11, 14, 17 and 20. Taxonomy. The name Artemia parthenogenetica is widely used in the relevant literature, although some taxonomists regard it as being used incorrectly to refer to parthenogenetic populations of Artemia that do not form a true species. A 2015 study based on microsatellite markers showed that parthenogenetic populations of different ploidy levels group together in a principal component analysis.
